The Ridiculous Things We’ve Heard Since Owning a Business

Running a business is wild. Rewarding? Yes. Exhausting? Definitely. Full of bizarre stories, comments and unsolicited opinions? Ohhh, absolutely.

Since being in business ownership, we’ve heard some things that made us laugh, some that made us shake our heads, and a few that made us want to throw our phones into the nearest river. So today, we thought we’d spill the beans and let you in on the real behind-the-scenes stuff that business owners rarely talk about — the rumours, the assumptions, the copycats, and the criticism.

1. “I heard you were pregnant / moved / shut the business down…”

Apparently, we’ve lived multiple lives — some of which we weren’t even aware of. It’s always fascinating hearing what people think they know about us.

We’ve had people confidently talk about things like what we did on the weekend (thanks for the detailed recap?), what money we should spend and where, where we supposedly live now, and yes — even whether we’re expecting a baby. One of the best ones? That our business has shut down. News to us!

Honestly, if half the rumours were true, we’d be living in a mansion in the Bahamas sipping cocktails and running a caravan empire remotely.

2. “You guys don’t even caravan.”

We wish we could caravan more! But the idea that we don’t actually caravan is probably the most laughable comment we’ve received — especially from people who clearly haven’t followed us on here for more than a hot minute.

We live and breathe this lifestyle. We’ve camped, towed, toured and tackled breakdowns in the middle of nowhere. We’ve got the red dust in our boots to prove it. So when someone throws this one out there, we just have to laugh (and maybe go back and repost a few old travel snaps, just for fun).

3. The Copy-Paste Crew

We put hours into creating content that’s original, meaningful, and 100% us. So when someone lifts it — word for word, reel for reel — and hits “post” like it’s theirs… it’s frustrating.

The thing is, no one can copy your heart. They can mimic your style, your words, your videos — but they can’t replicate your story, your values, or your why. So while it’s annoying, it’s also a reminder that we must be doing something right.

4. “They’re going to fail. It’s a sinking ship.”

Yikes. Yes, we’ve heard that too. There’s a weird thing that happens when you put yourself out there — some people start watching, not to cheer you on, but to wait for you to trip.

Here’s the truth: failure is a part of the journey. Every great business has moments of doubt, difficulty, and learning. But those whispering “sinking ship” from the sidelines? They don’t see the 2am brainstorms, the sacrifices, the strategy, the wins.

And honestly — if people are hoping you fail, it says a lot more about them than it ever does about you.

5. Keyboard Warriors & the Grief You Don’t See Coming

Let’s talk about the rude messages. The judgment. The “I’d never do that” or “why would you do that” comments from people hiding behind a profile pic of their dog.

The truth is, some of the harshest messages we’ve received came from the most unexpected people — ones who’d probably smile at us at the supermarket.

Owning a business in the social media age means putting yourself out there — and sadly, that sometimes comes with unwarranted criticism from people who don’t know you, your values, or your story.

So Why Keep Going?

Because for every ridiculous rumour, for every copied post, for every troll — there are hundreds of you cheering us on. Supporting local. Supporting Australia Owned & Made. Sharing the love. Living your own adventures because something we posted inspired you.

That’s why we do this.

We love this life. We love this community. And we wouldn’t trade it for the world.

Thanks for sticking with us through the chaos. And next time you hear a rumour about us? Maybe just send it our way. We could use a laugh.
